Three Strikes Cases

When a Conviction Could Mean Life in Prison

California three strikes laws can attach a decade’s long penalty on to what might otherwise be a relatively minor conviction. When your arrest could mean more than 30 years in prison, the need for experienced, reliable and informed criminal defense representation cannot be greater.

At the Century City Law Offices of Arna H. Zlotnik, A Professional Law Corporation, attorney Zlotnik has been representing clients in and around Los Angeles for more than 30 years. We have established a clear and proven record of success handling even the most complex criminal law cases. If you are in need of legal counsel to help you seek reduced charges or an acquittal in a three strikes case, contact our office to find out how we can help.

A California Three Strikes Law Defense

California’s three strikes law has been a controversial statute that has received national exposure for seemingly extreme penalties attached to relatively minor charges. If you have been convicted of a violent crime in the past, then future criminal charges carry an increased penalty.

  • First strike — you may have to serve 85% of your prison sentence (instead of the normal 50%).
  • Second strike — your sentence automatically doubles, and you must serve at least 80%.
  • Third strike — you may face a life sentence and be ineligible for parole until you have served at least 30 years.

These severe penalties make it essential to have an experienced criminal defense lawyer fighting for you. Particularly if you have previous strikes against you, even a lesser theft crime can carry a disproportionately large sentence. Depending on your case, attorney Zlotnik may be able to make a motion to have the charges against you dismissed or reduced. We may also be able to have prior strikes reduced or dismissed, resulting in a shorter sentence for you.
